IPBC Asia 2023: A Record-Breaking Success!
Tokyo, 7 December 2023 – IPBC Asia 2023, the premier conference for intellectual property experts, drew a record attendance of more than 600 delegates from over 24 countries. Held in Tokyo from 28-30 November, the conference featured 85 expert speakers from companies such as Alibaba, Nokia, Sony, Ant Group, Biocon Biologics, Huawei and more.
The conference kicked off with a welcome address by Koichi Hamano, commissioner at the Japan Patent Office, followed by a keynote address by Kenichi Nagasawa, adviser for Canon and vice chairperson of the Japan Intellectual Property Association. Nagasawa emphasized the importance of understanding the difference in cultures between different companies, industries, and countries to better bridge those, sometimes more invisible, divides.
The final panel of the day featured members of this year’s Asia IP Elite, who shared their journey to becoming IP leaders and the know-how on operating in complex markets globally. Day one concluded with a gala dinner hosted by IAM, which recognized a record 88 Asia IP Elite entities. A handful of executives and IP departments, who had been handpicked by the editorial team for their especially significant contributions to their organizations over the past year, were invited onto the stage to accept awards.
On the final day of IPBC Asia, Xiaomi’s general manager of corporate business development and IP strategy, Ran Xu, shared the company’s perspective on patents, and panellists engaged in discussions about how to handle changes in Europe’s IP system and the significance of India to patent strategies.
This year’s conference had a special buzz as it was the first time that Chinese delegates were able to attend since COVID-19. The conference was a great success, and we look forward to seeing you at IPBC Asia 2024!
